About

After taking my degree in Architecture, I was very fortunate to find employment with Architect Paolo Caliari of Caliari Yacht Montecarlo for two years. Paolo Caliari is known as the design father of the Mediterranean Style Yacht Design which in the seventies changed the styling rules and concepts in yacht design. I learnt a lot with him and was introduced to the major Viareggio yacht building companies, like Tecnomarine, Leopard Yachts and San Lorenzo. My fluent English was of great help, when it came to dealing with Chris-Craft Inc USA.

In 1981 I moved back to Rome to open my own office, working for Canados, Itama and Italcraft. In 1984 partnered with hull engineer Angelo Sinisi (expert in high performance surface drive propulsion) till 1991. During this period I worked on the general architectural design tasks, styling, layout, interior design etc, whilst he coped with the hull design and engineering problems. During this period we worked for Azimut’s basic design of the Azimut Atlantic Challenger, Tecnomar in Pisa and Chantier Naval de Biot in France (specialized in aluminium construction).

Between 1991 and 2000, parallel to my design work, I founded a small boatyard to produce Kingfisher Yachts – 25 to 35ft sport fisherman to my own complete design. They were successful but our high quality interiors were too expensive for the fishermen. We even exported one 35’ to Japan.

Between 1992 and 1994 I was hired by Azimut to deal with the complete interior design and building survey of production models AZ43’, AZ 76’ and AZ90’ series and the one-off fiberglass water jet - Azimut Benetti 118’

At the same time, other preliminary designs like the Posillipo 97’ wide-body were elaborated to present to potential customers.

In 2000 I was hired by Posillipo Yachts to redesign the interior layout, furnishing and décor of the 70’ production series; I was also responsible for construction survey and individual customer changes (more than twenty boats in five years. Subsequently I was also asked to do the same on the new 65’ production line and to train junior designers of the company’s design office. In 2003 I completely designed - styling, interior layout, furnishing and décor - the Rizzardi CR73 Open and Hard Top sports yacht; I also surveyed the complete production pipeline, starting from the plugs, right to the delivery of the prototype. As usual, I later took care of the individual customer requests to actually develop a complete new alternative layout for the Hard Top version. For Posillipo I also prepared preliminary interior designs for the 85/90’ which were then developed by the internal staff.
